This post is not for sensitive readers.

Adult content only!

I had no choice but to take the F800GS courtesy bike for which I'm eternally grateful while my trusty R 1200GSA was in for its 60 000km service on Thursday.

I swear I saw them snigger at me as I mounted to ride off.

Well I Never!!!

I now finally understand why there are discussions about rider gear and helmets, posts and discussions I've never understood before, never ever having to  consider a helmet noisy or gear breezie.

On the R 1200GSA you get no wind noise or helmet noise and I've debated ear plugs because of this quiet ride.

I've always been content with my gear because wind chill has never been a factor.

But now that I've ridden an F 800 GS, I offer apology to all that I'v ever thought woosies and pansies for discussing wind noise and chilly breesie gear.

In fact, RESPECT brothers and sisters!

Respect to you all who ride these draughty naked machines, no wonder you never ride far, always look for a coffee shop and look so miserable after a long ride.

Respect.

I guess I got the 800 to ensure I never rode more than I absolutely had to.

Wow, is my lekker quiet helmet not the noisest thing when on the 800.

and my L forever gear is as draughty as a straw cloak. something I'd never have known had I not left my 1200 saddle for the naked bike.

It has the sexiest power band, nippiness and handling, excellent for short distances and off road riding. but not for commuting daily over 50km round trips.

Horses for courses I guess,

No wonder I rearely ever see an 800 during my weekly to and fro commuting.

RESPECT  to all who ride them during the week and on any long trip! (not that you can go far on only 17 litres of fuel.)

Eish!

Hi Andyman

I read your post with interest as I have a 2008 F650GS Twin (so almost the same as the F800GS) and I use it as a daily commuter, a distance of 40km each way. I love my bike, I even sold my car as I never drove it, even through winter. I have a Kappa touring screen which makes a huge difference, heated grips and barkbusters.

Funnily enough at one of the services I had done last year the dealership's loan bike wouldn't start (flat battery) so they rushed around and got me a 1200GS for the day. I really enjoyed that, fantastic machine, but as a commuter I will take my 800cc over the 1200cc any day. My little 16 litre tank gets me well over 300km at freeway speeds and is far more economical than a 1200, an important factor in my commuter requirements.

Cheers

Glenn

Glenn I guess 40km is good.

I do 52 either way and found the horse power of the 1200GSA is very useful negotiating traffic and just getting me out of trouble.

I do 35 kilos of the commute on the N2 and 12km on the R300, the 1200 gives me better protection from the weather than the 650 or 800 can.

My 600 kilo range allows me to fill up on Monday, most days for the whole week.

I found the 650 nipy as hell and so good on fuel usage, but as I only have one bike and do long trips into the cuds in country, the 1200 is my best all-rounder- commute and tour across terrain.
