Greetings, All I am new here and not yet fully au-fait with the Forum protocol (but I will get there.....). Having a problem with my scoot (2007: 26 000 kms) in terms of fuel settings. Bike collected by dealer on 20 Nov 2009 AD and still without a full diagnosis of the "problem". Black smoke at 5 000 to 7 000 rpm. Have swopped out/exchanged all the vital components but no improvement at high RPM. Have checked for air leaks on the intake and nothing to report. Lambda's are both reading in the same range. Not sure whether they have analysed the exhaust gasses yet. BMW are reluctant to swop out the ECU as it is linked to the ignition. Would a "working" ECU give an accurate reflection of the volumetric efficiency of the motor? Has anybody else encountered a similar problem? Looking forward to your valued comments. Wooly Bugger

I have found that my bike uses oil when the air filter begins to clog up. I have in the past noticed smoke from Rony's GSA when his filter got dirty. I'm not sure if this is what is affecting you but, give it a look. Also I would have a look if there is lots of oil in your airbox. Lets Ride!!!

Jane did a ride on her bike a Honda 400 CBRR from Cape Town via Golden Gate around the outside of Lesotho, and a few times she had fuel problems, and on calling the gent who worked on it, he said contaminated fuel, just keep the revs up, and it will go after the next tank of fuel, this happened x3 times during the trip, and no problems therafter. Yes hers was carbed, but sounds likely if you have taken fuel from more obscure or old garages.
