1200GS fuel indication

Hi there, My bike's fuel indication bar went "mad" all of a sudden. After filling up it shows "full" at start up and then immediately goes to the first block on the bar (about 1/3 full). It obviously then "counts" from close to empty and the warning light goes on with basically a full tank. Is there anything I can do myself like disconnecting and re-connect wires to re-set this? Try to disconnect the battery - this re-boots the computer. When you switch on the ignition, wait untill all the lights have finished their "little routine". (do this every time) If these basic steps dont help - MOTORRAD.
