1200GS - Bigger Sump Guard?

Does anyone know if the standard sump guard on the 1200gs is sized and holed to allow for additonal cooling air onto the motor sump? Am looking at replacing it with a larger aluminium one (that protects exhaust headers as well) but am concerned it will choke airflow around the sump as it is not 'perforated' and considerably bigger than the standard guard. Thanks Bernhard
