After washing the bike it does not want to start. Symtoms : Lights goes on with little flicker. A click, click, click ... sound. (coming from starter motor, I think. That whine sound from the ABS brakes (I think) is audible as per usual. EWS! message intially appeared but I used my spare key and the message is gone now. No other warning lights. A jump start did not help. Are there any check that I can do before I take it to BMW for the repair? Regards Steve

Check your battery's connection......tighten, if no luck, recharge it and try again, sounds more like a battery problem than anything else. The EWS is a bit of a concern but battery is most likely it. Ps. Always put in year with model as the differences can be considerable.

Before calling on-call, check you still are covered!!!, or you may pay for the assistance, as you mentioned servo brakes it may be an 06 or earlier bike. I may be wrong on above info so check first!

Could be flickering due to loose connection, low voltage (though the computer should just shut down if there is insufficient voltage), or a short somewhere.

The clicking is a relay - if it is the starter motor relay, then the click only happens when you press the start button. On my bike it is the ABS relay when it fails to initialize, but this should not stop you from starting. If the flickering and the relay are related, then it might be a failed relay, or low battery causing the relay to not engage properly.

The whine is the fuel pump, so you can rule that out as a problem. When you press the starter button, I take it the starter motor does not crank? If a jump start using jumper cables fails, the problem is not battery related. But if a tow or push start fails to help, then the starter motor isn't the problem. HTH Charles

I discovered today that you get jumper cables and then you get better jumper cables. We got the Beemer going again. It appears that I need a new battery. Wow! their are costly!. Thank you all for your input on this. PS : The Bike is a 2006 model. Regards Steve

Use the Search function on this site for batteries, there are cheaper options....Dixons comes to mind.
