1200 GS ABS Problem

My ABS light on my 2004 1200 GS keeps flashing.  I've lost confidence in BMW service centres in Cape Town and Stellenbosch.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Or just forget it.  I rode for 2 years with a flashing ABS.  Then I fixed it.  Then I realized I never used it and it got in the way more often than not.  So I took it out.  I can ride my own bike thank-you, don't need a computer to second-guess me.

I've been doiing that for awhile but it worries me.  Its the rear brake that is not working correctly.  Thanks

How is the rear brake not working correctly?  Does it not brake when you depress the pedal, or does it not release when you release the pedal, or does it judder when you brake or does it lock?

Does your bike have servo-assisted brakes, and the servo is not kicking in so your brakes are very weak?

Make sure your brake light switch is working properly on the back brake. If its on when you switch the ignition on, then the ABS will not engage.

Also, try and find out where Shane is that worked at Yamaha Paarden Island. The best BMW guy in CApe Town.

Charles the ABS is servo assisted on the 2004 - 2006 model 1200 gs. Pleco is right to check the brakelight switch first but these ABS also give a fault of internal pressure sensor. In these cases the unit has to be replaced because of the speedo , tripmeter , brake and tail light working through the ABS

There you have it Jannie - take it to an expert.  Everything runs through your ABS and your brakes are crucial.  I am pretty sure there are posts on ukgser.com about how to bypass ABS on a servo-assisted model.

But support one of the locals who keeps the older bikes on the road.
