My starter sometimes turns but does not turn the engine over. ( possibly the bendix?)

Where can I take my starter for a service?

Or have a look at this thread: http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/badger-scrounging-again-starter-motor

The starter is very easy to remove yourself, and to open up the bendix.  Sometimes all it needs is a good clean and lube, which is very rewarding to do yourself.  Otherwise search this site for various BMW-qualified mechanics.  Or just take it to the dealer - they do a great job and are not as expensive as you tend to think.

Thanks Charles

I am quite competent to take anything apart, it is the reassembly that I am scared of as I usually end up with "spare" parts.

If someone else is thinking of doing this please let me know and we could do it together. Safety in numbers.

My warehouse is in Airport Industria with space and tools( and a fridge).

Anton,

you are very welcome to come out to Gordons Bay and I will do it for you.

I have rebuilt many starters over the eyars for various BMW's.

However, I gave all the spares away a while ago.

Nevertheless we can service your starter easily.
