1200gs rear sub frame collapse

Well ok, it’s not nearly as bad as that, but......

After fitting Kappa luggage racks I noticed two hairline cracks in the paint where the pillion foot pegs join the sub frame. Whether the cracks and the fitting of the luggage racks are related I’m not too sure. I suspect that they may have been bent in fractionally in one of my ‘side stand’ instances and it’s only coincidence that I’m noticing them now. You can see where I pulled the paint away in the photo at the front join, but the other I have left alone. I dont' think there are any cracks in the welds at all, only the paint.

But now I need it sorted. I visited Custom Spray in the city centre, but they are not able to assist. I’ve considered just going to a car spray shop, but am a bit nervous of leaving the bike around the uninitiated unless the owner is also a rider.

Any suggestions as to where I can get it properly sorted out would be appreciated. Preferably in the city or around the southern suburbs, but not essential. Someone suggested nail polish, but let’s be serious here, this isn't a 15 year old rat bike.

Thanks.

Thanks Buddy.

They're closed until the 13th. Anyone else with any suggestions? I've heard rumours of a place in Paarden Eiland?

I washed the bike today and more flakes of paint came off....... breaks my heart!

Ouch!

I see it's actually a engine support bracket. If that crack runs all the way through the steel plate, then the chances are that it will keep growing. I doubt it would be a good idea riding with one engine support less for any great length of time. The problem being that one is unsure what else is then being stressed.

Even if it's just cracked paint there will be rust issues very quickly.

If the steel is cracked, another question would be why? Accident damage? Factory fault?

I'm no expert, but I'd have it checked out. As to where........ I'm not sure, but maybe take a ride past PAV in Clare street in Gardens.
