Women's day ride - 9th August

Then there were only 3… We started out with 7 bikes the week prior to our ride. Our numbers declined quickly and we ended up with only 3 riders by Saturday morning. We weren’t bothered at all and Thelma (GPS) guided us to Malmesbury at 9:00 from the N7 One Stop after a scrumptious Wimpy breakfast. MalmesburyMalmesbury We took a back route from Malmesbury back to the N7 (around 20kms of dirt included!). We decided not to let down our tyres as the road seemed to be in perfect condition despite some mud patches and a bit of water to add to the fun. Although nothing dramatic to the experienced rider, we were absolutely pleased with ourselves! And admired the mud on our bikes! Back on the N7 we took the Koringberg turn off where we had the opportunity to do another 30kms of dirt (between Koringberg and Hopefield). KoringbergKoringberg This road was slightly trickier with some sandy patches and loose gravel along the way. Luckily we dropped tyre pressure to about 160 which helped a lot! Adrenaline pumping we took a short rest in Hopefield while pumping tyres for the tar section to Velddrif. In Velddrif we visited Diana’s mom’s art shop and had a well deserved drink before pushing on to St Helenabay and Stompneusbay. From here we opted for the dirt road to Paternoster. Now this was my kind of gravel! No ruts, almost no loose sand, easy to follow the track..aaah, almost like tar with the added satisfaction of generating some dust! We had a (rather awful) lunch at the Paternoster hotel where we met other bikers from Pretoria (touring with their Harley but assuring us that they definitely prefer their GS!). After taking a quick tour through Paternoster we headed for Saldanha where we refueled and headed home via the West Coast National Park to the R27. Our dash on the R27 was probably the most boring part of the day but we soon forgot about it when we took a gravel road back to the N7. Back to N7Back to N7Diana on cell phoneDiana on cell phone Completely content and very proud of ourselves we stopped at the One-stop to say our goodbyes and departed for our respective homes at around 17:40. A full day of fun and most certainly a ride to repeat! Thanks to both Geoff Russell and Neil Terry for the good advice and assistance with the routes. And for all the support from the Quarry guys!

Nice one THANKS!!and well done!! Perhaps your GPS should have a masculine name as GPS's NEVER ask for directions!!!!:-) Yes, the dirt Koringberg to Hopefield is a bit more interesting....again I think baked ruts under the dust/sand and bigger stones rather than gravel.

Masculine name for my GPS...no Neil! How could we take a man with us on a women's ride? Anyway, Thelma is very proficient in map reading and navigating. She also doesn’t mind telling us to make a u-turn and we don’t mind listening…might have been a bit different if it was a man!

Sounds like you ladies had a good time, and didn't miss us lipstick lathered lads.
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.
