Where's the Bubbly? Off Road, Camping Weekend at Champagne Guest Farm, 9th -10th March 2013.

River. Braaing. Laughs. Sand. Adventure. Champagne.

6 words that immediately came to mind as I thought of the weekend that has just passed.

This weekend, Warren Ellwood organized a fantastic weekend at the Champagne Guest Farm/ Camping site, situated just outside of Greyton on the Zondereind River.

Although this may seem close to home, Warren led the group, the long way round. Setting off at 8 on Saturday morning, we only arrived at the campsite  after 2 o'clock.

On our way to the camp site we were unfortunate enough to see two rather big accidents, one which happenend on a pass we took, where a bus had gone into a ditch and was laying on it's side - we were just in time to be let passed the scene as big recovery trucks had arrived and the pass was due to be closed for a while. On a more positive note we were also lucky enough to pass Richard Branson and his argus cycling team and security on our way through Kleinmond - probably the closest any of us will ever get to the billionaire :)

When we got to the campsite we tucked into salmon and of course...champagne. Good old JC le Roux was the flavour of the day :)

Bubbly

We also floated around on the campsite pontoon and some swam in the river :)

The rest of the Saturday was spent relaxing together and in Hein and Richard's case, tent-diving and consuming too much alcohol. It was also nice to get to know three new members - Tobie Wieser and Justin and Wendy.

After Warren handed out a few strafdoppe it was bed time for many. And there truly is nothing better than falling alseep listening to water.

This morning, Sunday the 10th, we were lucky enough to have a sleep in and relax and enjoy our morning coffee, tea and rusks. We left Champange at around 10:15am and made our way on various dirt roads home. The highlight of the day for me was coming across the most magnificent horses who were beautiful and friendly.

Kev Thumbs up!

I don't think anyone returned home without a smile on their face and covered in dust (which is the best feeling in the world to an off road motorbiker ;) )

Thank you to all the people on the trip who made it, yet again, unforgettable. This report is short and to the point but it sums up everything important.

And to all the people who I shared the trip with ... You are the bubbles in my bubbly ;)

I am still smiling

This is just a quick thank you to all those that joined us for the weekend, I really hope you enjoyed it, I certainly did, too much I think. No more half and half allowed on trips, unless it comes in a hip flask.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Champagne on the Zonderend River was a brilliant find and I trust you all enjoyed the afternoon relaxing, swimming or causing mayhem with everyone.

I really enjoy the evenings of banter and discussion around the fire while everyone prepares their own food, very social I think due to great company, it was also very entertaining, thanks to Mr Wantling, Mr Elhers and Mr Lee, mostly.

The roads were for the most part in superb condition and there was some really awesome scenery on some of the new roads we chose to travel. We had ostriches, sheep and some buck in the roads but thankfully no incidents at all. No one got lost, no one fell over, all in all a good weekend.

Thanks once again to Pam for driving our back up vehicle and Trevor for providing it, it is really most appreciated. Thanks also Leon for sweeping the group the whole weekend, and I am glad you found your mojo.

Thanks also to Natalie for the salmon and all the running around during the week to make sure we are all looked after.

So that’s it, all home safe so until next time, look after yourselves.

There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.
