Panorama to the Elgin Country club - 9 December 2012

KOBUSS's picture
As usual we left Panorama at nine with 5 bikes with 7 riders, thanks for beautiful ladies who share their husband’s passion. The early part of the ride is mainly on highway so it was a bit boring. A lovely stretch of tar followed our direction to Stellenbosch, it can however be boring too, depending on the traffic. But then it was biker’s heaven, the Helshoogte pass. There I gave Deon and Lynne the freedom of going at their own speed up the pass. After the pass we regroup again and now it was Speed cop’s heaven. We found one hiding in a bush and trapping us with his camera from behind one kilometre from Franschoek very unpleasant thought. Luckily as BMW riders we kept the bikes “within the speed limit”, ha ha ha. We will wait for the surprise in the post box (we should be ok if it was in the 80 km zone but if it was in the 60 km zone?). Then it was our heaven again the Franschoek pass, the Pass is as treacherous as you make it, we did take it easy and enjoyed the sharp turns and we did watch out for the many bumps, loose gravel around sharp corners etc., there Deon showed us the way to ride in the pass. After regrouping we went to Grabouw via Theewaterskloof is was very scenic ride to the Elgin Country club for breakfast, a nice ride but in the new RSA you always get potholes which turned into brown mud after the nights rain (Sorry Lynne the memories I could see is still fresh in your mind). At the restaurant we waited quiet a while, for breakfast but the manager made up with the extras and cheap prices. After lunch we left for the Cape via the N2 (time constrains again). Although a bit windy the sun shined all morning and we all enjoyed the ride and did arrive safely at home. Thank you fellow members you guys make the efforts to arrange venues, telephone calls and pre trip inspection like this worthwhile. Enjoy your holiday season and a merry Christmas and a happy new year to all my fellow riders.
