Mystery Ride - the Other Dirties trip report

About 35 bikers and 22 pillions gathered at the Plattekloof Engen for the September'08 Mystery ride. The ride was arranged in three groups - one group on tar (leader Brian Messenger) and two dirt groups (leaders Geoff Russel and Johan de Jager). The excitement was tangible when Geoff called our group together for the route briefing. Although some of us did actually know where the Mystery Ride would lead to, we did not know the route. This alone was exciting enough. He assured us that the route was to be very easy and relaxed. Well, I am sure I was not the only one that did not quite believe him! It turned out that he was correct - all green (and black). Geoff led half of the Dirt-group (14 bikes and six pillions) in a Northerly direction - past Klipheuwel and Paardeberg towards Wellington. Naby PaardebergNaby Paardeberg Mixture of tar and dirt. The stretch Ongegund/Haasvlakte/Voe"lgezang was real plaaspad - narrow and bit rof in places. die Plaaspaddie Plaaspad Over Bainskloof and we turned right towards Worcester. First stop was for coffee at the Bergsig Restaurant. We were welcomed with a glass of quality sherry. Dark, soft and mellow. Everyone enjoyed the time there - I think we actually stayed longer than planned. The Breede river was overflowing the low water bridge we were supposed to cross, causing a change in Geoff's route plan. We approached Swellendam on a wide, solid dirt road and made our way to the Jorge's restaurant for lunch .... about two hours behind schedule. So gese^, so gedaan. By Bredasdorp 'n laaste hergroepering. Next morning the riders returned home in various informal groups. We had an appointment and had to ride straight back. We stopped at the Moerse Restaurant/Plaasstal/Coffeeshop in Napier (we should go there on a breakfast ride, or as part of an off-road trip). Moerse nice plekkie. Moerse RestaurantMoerse Restaurant And then after this Moerse Restaurant, were encountered that Moerse Wind all the way home.

Well done Danie - a very good trip report for the "dirties" echoes what the "roadies" had said. I must agree that the whole trip from start to finish was excellent including the "moerse" wind and partial rain on the way home. Brian & Roz

All I can add to this, is thank heavens I ride a heavy bike and I had a pillion with me, The wind and rain I had coming down the N2 was seriously scarey!! And not so much for me, but Linda. Brian, I have to say as I have said in "Legs" posting, if it were not for yourself and Roz and Jean and Cheesy, Linda would not be looking at the 2009 mystery tour. She has already commented that it sounds really cool, her only reservation was "isn't it windy in February?" So I reminded her of your statement that this ride was the worst she would ever experience. GeelKamel - baie mooi report, alles gese. Keep your feet on the pegs, and your hat on - Safe riding to all
