This is my first trip report so please excuse any mistakes.
The trip started with a 6 o'clock wake-up call to get the bike ready, the bike being Johan's 1200 GSA that got renamed as The Rental. Mike was all smiles about the fact that he was going to be in control of a bigger bike while everybody else told him that he couldn't play like he normally does. We were split into two groups, the firts lead by Warren and the second by Henk. Group 2 was smaller but also had the three Stooges, namely Henk, Mike and Richard. We had to give group 1 a headstart of about half an hour and 10 min in we were already bored and kept saying "Let's go!". As we waited for the time to pass, Sian had gotten even more impatient and was geared up and ready to go, rushing us along.
If you don't know how to start a trip on a good way, let me tell you...lose the route that was on the GPS and spend 5 min on the side of the road trying find it again. There was a part of the road on our way to Touwsrivier that was a bit technical with loose gravel and steep descends. It was there were we first caught up to group 1 because Mike Voges bought a piece of land. We desided to wait for the back-up to load the bike and give group 1 another headstart, so you can imagine our surprise when we caught up to them again. Having to wait AGAIN, not realising it wouldn't be our last. Nearing our destination, me being the pillion was looking around when I saw a campsight with bikes, and we passed it! Tapping Mike on his leg I told him we missed it and he just said that Henk new were to go. No more then 4 km later we turned around and i couldn't help but say "I told you so!".
After a cold night, we woke up to wind, drizzle and a dark sky. Everyone was wearing as much clothing as possible to stay warm, well everyone except Mike who walked around in a t-shirt. Idiot if you ask me. As someone that isn't a big fan of the cold, I wasn't really in the mood to get on a bike and ride at high speed, but I could always hide behind Mike. This time group 2 went first and the reason, since we caught up to group 1 twice. Sunday passed by in a blur, but what i do remember is that Henk came very close to bringing a bush back to Megan. If i learned one thing from this trip it's to be prepared for any weather and not to trust Mike when he says that i won't need warm pants.
Great report Michelle - please write some more.
