My first trip for 2013. Apology for the link to my blog, but it is just too much time and effort to replicate and upload all the picures and video.

Complements of the season to you and yours, enjoyed the ride report.
Next time you are in the area of Seweweekspoort you might want to do the loop via Rouxpos to Bosluiskloof and on to the Gamka dam. We have done this area several times and never tire of this phenomenen.
nice report...
Hi Manie
Nice report.
Seweweekspoort is not about the road or the ride through the poort. There is no man made marvel to wonder at, no impressive engineering to contemplate.
It's all about the amazing geological formations exposed in the poort. One needs to look up to appreciate the poort. Your video unfortuantely did not capture this at all OK, OK, as a Geology grad I'm somewhat biased .
See http://www.bmwmotorcycleclubcape.co.za/gamkapoort-cottages-and-long-way-... (towards the end) for a brief expanation of the geology of the area.
A place may be 'different things for different people'.
To us riding the bikes slowly through Seweweekspoort is like slowly walking through an old cathedral. Look up, see the beauty and simplicity around you and experience the greatness and aura. To us it beats Meiringspoort, with all its man-made structures, vehicles and people, every time.
Sorry you did not enjoy it, but if everybody liked the same places they may get over-exploited, and therefor less of an experience for those who enjoy them.
Happy travels in 2013.
I did Seweweekspoort in light rain and it was one of the highlights of my 3000km trip. Really sorry it was a disappointment to you!
Nice report, thanks.
Hi All
Thanks for reading my report and for taking the effort to reply. Seeing that everyone picked up on my "disappointment" of Seweweekspoort, let me just explain as might have created the wrong picture. I was not refering to the beauty of the place, but on the level of skill required to do the road. I really was under the impression that the route was quite hard and that it was filled with sharp corners, loose gravel and a few low water drifts difficult to pass. I am pretty sure that during the rainy season the conditions would've probably been much more difficult with muddy slippery surface and water crossing. Not that I was particularly looking for that as I still wet myself when I have to ride through any water obstacle, but it was just so easy that I went in and back in one hour hoping to discover the "difficult" part around the next corner. My mistake was maybe comparing it to Meiringspoort where NO riding skills are required because of the good road. I am sure Meiringspoort probably was more challenging before the tarred road was constructed years ago because there are some serious turns and quite a lot of water crossings. I was hoping to find the "unspoilt Meiringspoort" at Seweweeks. When you look past the man-made structures in Meiringspoort and up at the rock formations it is quite a pretty sight as well, despite all the tourists.
I really appreciate the mountains, rock formations and scenery that we have in the Southern Cape and will definitely do Seweweekspoort again when I get the chance, but this time it will be for the beauty of it and not for the "challenging road". Hope to find you there one day...
Bly om te sien jy is terug in die saal, Manie! Geniet dit! Dankie vir die verslag - dit bly 'n pragtige wereld...
