Hi Everyone,

Our club members are making good progress with registration on the new website with 30% already done. If you still need to do so please see a repeat of the details below:-

We are very excited to announce the launch of our new website for members of the BMW Motorrad Club Cape and trust that you too will like the new and fresh look. To give us the opportunity to update all the information of our members we have chosen to request all our active members to re-register on the new site and shall be pleased if you will do so by taking the following steps:-

  1. Open the website by going to:-

https://bmwclubs.africa/mrcap/membership-registration-mrcap/

  1. Click on the ‘Membership’ tab and then on ‘Registration’
  2. On the registration page click on the ‘CLUBMembership Single’ Box
  3. Complete the form with all information and then check the ‘Captcha’ box and then click  ‘Add to Basket’
  4. You will then be taken to the Checkout page – make sure all your details are correct and then scroll down to the bottom of the page and select either ‘Direct Bank Transfer’ or ‘Payfast’ as your payment method. Then click on ‘Sign up now’.
  5. Existing members joining the new site do not need to be concerned about the R200 joining fee shown in the total amount due. Simply pay your membership of R265-00 for 2020 if you have not already done so. We will do an adjustment.
  6. You will then be emailed a new temporary password which you should use to log back into the site.

Please give us some feedback on your first impressions and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any difficulty with the registration process. The old website will be run in parallel for a while but we will be closing the old site in a short while.

Best wishes to you all for 2020 and we look forward to another active and eventful year.

I am very sad to see this forum winding down and being shut down. I am not a Facebooker, so if the new forum is Facebook, I am afraid I will not have much of a forum to go to. And then loose a basic connection to the Club.

Will the new forum have the same/similar headings/internal links as this Forum, so that you do not need to wade through all the pictures and content to find what you are looking for?

I see some functions and links on this Forum has already been removed/culled (eg Search)

Also disabled is the vote Up / vote Down function. Intentionally or accidentally?

Will there be any way that the Trip Reports and Technical Information captured in this forum can be recalled/read after this forum has been shut down?

When this forum format replaced the previous forum, we lost a lot of trip reports and other interesting information. Will it happen again?

We have 601 trip reports in this forum - all to be lost?

All the technical tips and information - all to be lost?

Many times I have searched on Internet/Google for specific information, I found that links to this Forum are given. Eg fixing a starter motor or fixing some problem or to explain some issue. Also references to places visited and reports on conditions on specific routes. And trip reports that mention specific places visited.

Question to the new webmaster: All to be lost?

A huge huge thanks to Charles who did a fantastic job in honing and maintaining a most practical, well organized and user friendly Forum. I will miss this Forum

Couldn't agree with you more Geelkameel (Danie)! Been on this site since 2006. Posted lots of JR trip reports. Some years didn't have to be member to of the club to enjoy this site. Now you HAVE to pay to register. Anyway thanks Charles for running this site. Enjoyed it immensely through the years my broer!

At least I still have my 2005 1200GS and 2014 1200RT to keep me company. And made good friends.

Moving on then.

The new site will have trip reports, but in a new format, and we are in the process of setting up a new style "forum" which is more in the style of a social networking product - similar to Facebook.  There will be sections of this that will be open to all, and other sections for members only.

We are not able to port all the old trip reports and technical tips etc to the new site without incurring great cost.  It's not as easy as one might think to move this content from the existing platform to the new platform for various reasons.

Members have for some time now been asking for a new and refreshed web site and we have spent much time developing a site that is contemporary in design, look and feel, and is easy to navigate. Added to this, there is good membership and event management with the new site and it will only get better as more content is loaded and features are added.

So, no club membership, no forum?

There will be something similar to the forum on the new site, and parts of it will be open to all.  We are also looking at ways to migrate some of the content to the new site

Ek is teleurgesteld.

Laastens wil ek voorstel dat die volgende sin op die nuwe "forum"  "Our headquarters are in Cape Town and we represent riders and owners of BMW motorcycles in the Western Cape." vervang word met "Our headquarters are in Cape Town and we represent some of the riders and owners of BMW motorcycles in the Western Cape."

Party ry met hul motor of motorfiets of trapfiets in kerktyd. Ander mense doen dit na' kerk. Baie mense is (ongelukkig) nie kerkvas nie.

Die klub se motivering is dat "...Members have for some time now been asking for a new and refreshed web site..."  Ek weetnie of dit "some members"of "many members" of "most members" is wat gevra het nie. Definitief nie "all members" nie.

Yip been there.

Tried to post my Trip report "Rooiberg Camping" on the new site. Trip report link does not work, then tried the club FB page, unable to add or embed links to U Tube etc. Posted the trip report on my own FB page and tried to share the post to the Club Page, again unsuccessful.

While I can appreciate the move to the new site we need to make sure it works and is user friendly (like this site) before we kill the old one. Please committee keep this site going until the new one is sorted out.
