Elim touches the hearts of many people. Thanks to all of you who shared in the Elim experience on Saturday. I promised myself not to cry, but I find myself doing it all the time. Sorry guys.... My dad (Nico) mentioned later the afternoon that someone around them must've peeled onions because his eyes became very teary at times. Like Sister Engel at Elim whispered in my ear - tears are medicine from nature and they come in different quantities. We don't have to be shy about it. Wish the guys want to take these learnings. I did inform both charities what we got donated and what I purchased with some of the prize money. After all of what we delivered, I still have more funds available. I did not feel that it was necessary to announce it there yesterday, but I'd like to let all of you know what exactly we delivered. The biggest thanks goes to my Heavenly Father for giving me the will to help others in need, the strength to do this over and above work and family commitments and for giving me the courage to ASK when I need something. O yes, I've mastered the task of asking for donations. I cannot accept the credit and thank you's, I am just the instrument in His hands. A BIG thank you to a very supportive family : my hubby (JR) for always standing 100% behind me, my dad (Nico) for always being available to collect donations and for my two children (Elzaan & Luan) for your love and support. Again a BIG thank you to KFM and Pick&Pay for the R20 000 in grocerie vouchers and to Old Mutual for matching this prize. 1. For Elim Home - our first stop Winsurg Pharmacy - donated 1 portable commode and I purchased the other 6 (Old Mutual funds) Towel & Linen - donated 6kg of nappy material for bibs and nappy pads - we know that only 3 of the 49 children in Elim Home don't wear nappies TV donated by Samsung DVD player and DVD's - P & P vouchers Mr Price Home - donated 4 matresses to replace the gym mats which the children lay on. They also donated 10 mosquito nets for the "Sterretjies". The "Sterretjies" are those children like Myrna (the 5 year old I'm holding on the pics) and Riedwaan (check blue shirt) and others. They've also committed to donate mosquito nets for the rest of the beds in Elim Home over the next few weeks. Food purchased with P & P vouchers (lesser quantity than what we delivered to Mispah school as they have less children) 2. Mispah School for children with severe learning disabilities Elnapress iron purchased with the Old Mutual money Geyser and 2 microwave ovens - donated by a club member DVD's and extra iron purchased with P & P vouchers Food purchased with P & P vouchers 3. For both charities: KL Muslim Butchery - donated 120 hamburgers and juices for the children for lunch. Purity purchased at P & P. Tiger Brands (Beacon) for the donation of 620 Easter Eggs Bakers Emporium for the donation of 130 cup cakes Media 24 for donating magazines for the staff's goodie bags Old Mutual for donating the scarves for the ladies and lanyards for the men for the goodie bags Die Burger for their donation of waterbottles for the goodie bags. Baie dankie, Tanya & die BMW Motorfietsklub Another tearfull moment for me, was when the principal read a poem that they wrote for us. Unfortunately it is in Afrikaans, but I would like to share this as well. The very familiar : You raise me up! was then sung in Afrikaans by one of the learners. The "lied" that they referred to above. It's always a very rewarding experience when we visit Elim and I would encourage the rest of the club, to try and accompany us on the next visit to experience this first hand. Will keep you posted on the media coverage. Always yours in the heart of needy communities, Tanya trossouw@oldmutual.com 082 332 4635

42 bikes gathered at the Firlands Shell. As always Tanya was up EARLY. A friend assisted her and brought the goodies from Arabella Sheraton to her house - otherwise Tanya would have had to collect the goodies at 4:00 !! Shell FirlandsShell Firlands We all had some lovely coffee and snaks. Even though there were SO MANY new faces no-one felt like an outsider. A few people did arrive slightly after 8:00, delaying the start. But I doubt if anybody even noticed this. Finally Andyman managed to do the riders briefing. The off-roaders left first (21 bikes). It sounds like they had a good time on the dirt, even though a rider did ...... (I'll leave this for the off-roaders to tell.) Off roaders getting ready to departOff roaders getting ready to depart The on-road group, also 21 bikes, finally got going. Almost half of this group were first timers, thus it was slow going. At least the "group" was going slowly - a certain 1200 GS rider was trying to stay ahead of his shadow on a mini superbike. :) Just outside Caledon we stopped and re-grouped. And then it was that LOVELY piece of road to Napier. At Napier we stopped for a cup of coffee - before I realised what was happening some people had started ordering breakfast - I kept on thinking "Tanya will skin me alive if we arive late at Elim". Coffee at ElimCoffee at Elim Then Pieter phoned to say he is waiting for us at Bredasdorp, al the way from Tulbach. At Bredasdorp we pulled in at the BP for those with smaller tanks. The road from Bredasdorp to Elim is BRAND NEW. A bit too straight to be exciting, but good scenery all the same. At Elim Tanya was waiting for us. They got there 5 minutes before us - with some of the off-roaders still enroute. BMW dealer at ElimBMW dealer at Elim There is nothing I can add to the Elim and Mispha experience that has not bee said already. At this point Alvin also joined us. Thus at the end 44 bikes made it to Elim. Mosquito nets for the "sterretjies"Mosquito nets for the "sterretjies" Just after 13:00 we headed to the Windmill for lunch. The food was good. Nobody complained about the slow service. As the people finished eating they left in small groups. I waited for the last on roaders and we had nice ride back, stopping for cooldrinks along the way. Once againg, thanks to Tanya and family for the lovely ride and the opportunity to assist others.
