Christmas comes to Elim in a very different way - A BMW way

There is nothing more rewarding than the human Smile!! This picture was so rewarding for me, to see all the hard work and commitment that especially Tanya, and all her workers had put in to this day!! A Smile can last forever !!! A smile of true blessed Happiness comes from knowing you have accomplished Much: The joy of the children was better than the joy on Tanya's faceA smile of true blessed Happiness comes from knowing you have accomplished Much: The joy of the children was better than the joy on Tanya's face I actually don't know how many we ended up being at Elim. But what I do know is all that went there, soon found out why we had to be there. It was a beautiful day when the crowd huddled around the recovery trailer at around 07h15 for that welcoming cup of coffee. Before long all were present and accounted for. 3 bakkies and 1 trailer filled to the brim with presents and eats for those wonderful people we have come to love in Elim. Shortly before 8am the dirties pulled out led by JR (Johan) and as they did so the level of excitement rose amongst all present. The plan was for the dirties to go off ahead, and the roadies abely led by John Hamman, would then take a slow leisurly drive through to Napier where all the riders would regroup before heading towards Elim. Due to the stop start situations on the N2, we ended up meeting the dirties at one of these stops. So the dirties turned off and the roadies continued on down to Caledon. At this point we pulled in for a quick breather, and also to allow the bakkies and vans to catch up. Then it was off to Napier through some of the most wonderful motorcycling roads I have ever experienced. Unfortunately it wasn't to be without mishap. About 20 km's short of Napier, Kobus's Kwaka 900 ninja decided it was going to blow off some steam (literally) the pipe to the radiator burst and steam and coolent everywhere. A few quick phone calls, found Chris Hamman back with the VW transporter, a quick repack and one bike loaded. Off we go to Napier. Gunners coffee shop can only be commended for their efficient service. As the bikes pulled in, the coffee was on the table waiting. The roadies had just started sipping the wonderful coffee, when who should arrive, all the dirties. More coffee and then Major General Mother T was issuing the marching (or rather riding orders) Just out side Elim the bikes stopped. The line up just outside Elim: Santa's Dress up spotThe line up just outside Elim: Santa's Dress up spot More of the line up outside Elim: More outside Elim at Santa's dressing pointMore of the line up outside Elim: More outside Elim at Santa's dressing point And then why we had stopped. I am still intrigued as to what Labola was looking at?? Santa Dressing: All Change !!Santa Dressing: All Change !! And then it was on to Elim Home. As the bikes pulled in to the grounds, the kids faces at that moment, would have melted even the coldest of hearts. Joy, happiness, sheer pleasure were just some of the emotions that could be seen as we rode in to the grounds. A quick regroup, and the human chain formed and the bakkies, and trailers were swiftly unloaded. Then it was all into the hall!! A quick thank you to all those that had made this day possible from Mother T Tanya with the guest of honour explaining to the children: And all is explainedTanya with the guest of honour explaining to the children: And all is explained And then the presents were handed out!! And the presents piled up and the smiles grew bigger: And they wait with great excitementAnd the presents piled up and the smiles grew bigger: And they wait with great excitement Santa had worked hard, but his right hand was there to support him. Santa with his main helper !!: There is always someone to lean onSanta with his main helper !!: There is always someone to lean on With special thanks to Chris Hamman and some of the members, the children, staff and helpers were treated to rides on the GS's. I'm not sure who had the most fun at this point those getting the rides or those giving the rides. Spur burgers were braaied, all were fed, and then it was the farewells. A few continued through to Pearly beach, and the rest in different groups headed homewards. But as one of the last to leave, I do know this, next year I will be back!! To all those that made this happen, be it financial or in donation, you know who you are, and trust me your sentiments your thoughts and your contribution will live in the hearts of those very special people in Elim. I know I was there. From personally, Tanya, Johan and family. Andyman, Chris & John Hamman and Hamman Motorrad and all those other riders and donators I say Thank you for a wonderful heart filling Day. Keep your feet on the pegs, and your hat on. Safe riding to all.

Great trip report. This is certainly an event not to be missed - it's not often one can have so much fun and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip with the club and it was good to be able to "connect" some of the virtual (online) names to real people. Many thanks to ALL who made the day possible. Special thanks to John Hamman (and Chris and Linda in the backup vehicle) for patiently riding with me (at my pace) all the way back to Bellville as I battled with the "slight breeze" on the way home. I now know that my counter steering skills still require a few 1000km more practice. Tony We should learn from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

It was a privilege to be part of the Elim group. To be abled to help those less abled. To see the enjoyment and the exitement when we arrived, the young boy shreeking and if he wasn't contained to his wheel chair, I'm sure he would have run to greet "Father Christmas". Thank you to Tanya (Mother T) and all the good samaritans. I have a few photo's Send e-mail to jhorthopaedics@absamail.co.za I will pass them on to you.

Hi - it was a humbling experience for me. I will attend this event again. What I found particularly moving was the boy called Ryan walking for the first time on his bandaged legs (according to the nurses). When I was about to leave he was standing next to my bike, wanting another ride...

BMW Motorrad posted my story and some stunning pics. Even an ad on the main page where Santa and the elves arrive in Elim. Thanks again for all your contributions, assistance and support to make this day another special one in Elim. I'm back there on the 28th with a group of 44 Old Mutual staff members where we will be painting their rooms, mowing lawn, scrubbing toilets and bathrooms and doing some gardening as part of Old Mutual's care and share initiative. Greater Good SA has given us R8000 to buy the paint, tiles and a few cleaning agents. Looking forward to another uplifting experience. If you have nothing to do next Thursday and feel that you want to visit the Children again, feel free to pop me an e-mail (trossouw@oldmutual.com) Yours in the heart of needy communities, Tanya (motherT) 082 332 4635
