Beemer+ wife=?

My wife became the proud owner of a F650GS on Saturday morning. Thanks Dave, Ruan and Kie for excellent service. Lizl got her bikers license when her father allowed her to use his old Vespa as a student. That was some time ago and she did not touched the handlebars of a bike since then. Cheesy was at hand at Auto Atlantic for the motivational speech. The right man at the right spot! Auto AtlanticAuto Atlantic I took her to an open piece of grass next to the road about one block down the road from Auto Atlantic where I quickly showed her the basics. We have done the rider and pillion course and she has been a pillion on a number of Beemer excursions. She exercised pulling away, turning around and changing the gears. After about 15 mins, she told me I should go and fetch my GSA. I had to walk back to Auto Atlantic!!! And then we hit the road to Clanwilliam for a sleepover at my in-laws. It was 11h00 and mother sun was already doing her thing. Seeing my wife driving through the traffic was scary. My nervous was tested! She, though, was a natural. We stopped at the N7 Engen Garage for the usual Wimpy breakfast and to calm the nerves. When we sat down to eat her first remarks were – “OK I’m going to say this only once, but maybe I should have taken the 800”. As an engineer, she was also complaining that the 650 does not have enough “meters” - like the GSA! And then we hit the open road to CLanwilliam with my wife leading the way! Lizl leading the wayLizl leading the way She did unbelievably well. I had to take this picture. Lizl doing her thingLizl doing her thing It was hot. Scary stuff – don’t try this at home!Scary stuff – don’t try this at home! When I took this picture I thought 37.5 was the limit. Little did I know that a 42.5 was still awaiting us when we drove into Clanwilliam at about 14h00. ClanwilliamClanwilliam We left Clanwilliam this morning at about 07h30. It was already 32 degrees. Ek sweer daar is slegs ‘n net tussen Clanwilliam en die hel in die sommer! LambertsbayLambertsbay We stopped at Isabellas in Lambertsbay for something to chow. What a lovely place at the harbour to have breakfast. On the road to ElandsbayOn the road to Elandsbay I stopped for this one and took it when she was pulling away! No more scary stuff for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! ElandsbayElandsbay Beautiful views at Elandsbay. Home Sweet HomeHome Sweet Home And then all the way home to where the kids were awaiting us. The two of us are planning a trip through Namibia to Vic Falls and back through Botswana next year June!

Congrats Abel - on the wife and the bike! ;-) May the two of you have many many happy kilometers together on your bikes, and may your falls be gentle and the sand not too thick... Website Administrator [http://honeybadger.net Honey Badger IT Services]

Lizl, judging from the photographs you are a natural, May your mirrors never touch the ground, and the 800 can come later. Ignore opinions, heed facts. Feet on the pegs, always.

Think before you ink.

Trust is the most valuable asset.

Oooops!! Must be something in the air Abeltjie. The last time we saw you and Lizl was on the rider pillion course. Since then Vanessa and I had done our fair share of the together thing until... Vanessa took delivery of her 650GS the week end before last. Congratulations to you both. Michael and Vanessa.

Congratulations. I saw them unpacking that red beauty when it arrived. i was pleasantly shocked to see a brand new 650 single. Awesome.
There are so many problems in this world. Luckily there's a wristband available for almost all of them.

The decision to buy the "old" 650 was a monetary one. I doubt whether it will be possible to buy a new beemer for R65000 in future!!! The ride is the destination.
