AWOL & MIA One Sunny Tuesday

Annie's picture

So Monday afternoon I look at the weather forcast for Tuesday and I saw ANOTHER day of sunshine!!  I smsed Jean Verhulp, my partner in crime with a shiny new bumblebee yellow BMW650GS: "SUNSHINE 2morr - do u want 2 go for a spin?"  And she nervously replied : "we can try 9ish". Hooray, we're on!

So 7am today, I put on ATGATT and my laptop (for appearances) and head for Plumstead.  The bumblebee is already waiting.  Jean hasn't had much time in the 650 saddle and is quite nervous.   We fill up and get onto the M3, veering off up OuKaapseWeg - what a stunning day and views as far as the eyes can see.

Oops, there's Dixies - we are on a breakfast run - we need Breakfast.  A chap having breakfast with his family almost swallows his egg whole when we take off our helmets!  He is so jealous.  We tell him we're on AWOL from the office and doing a quick breakfast run.

Numscrumptious breakfast and coffee while the Navy practised in front of us - we both wondered what they were practising for. ??? Jean is amazed that her bike handled so well over OuKaapseWeg.  I'm amazed that she's handling the bike and the bends so well.

Back on the bikes we continued our journey along the sea, through Simonstown, Miller's Point, on towards Scarborough.  Only baboons and some security guards are on the road today.  We passed through the sleepy town of Scarborough.  I considered visiting the lighthouse, but carried on straight.

We took a turn into Kommetjie and rode alongside the sea and then back onto the main road.  A dog narrowly missed Jean.  Fishhoek was bustling compared to all the other little places.  I wondered if I could take her over Boyes Drive, and then I came across a sign that said:  "Detour.  Main road closed to main traffic.  Take Boyes Drive."  I could almost hear Jean's  nervousness, but AGAIN she managed fine up the steep inclined righthand bend.  And after that, everything was a breeze.  I hope she had time to enjoy the views.

We popped in to see Klein Constantia's gate, and did a perfect U-turn, then headed back for Plumstead.  I sadly donned my laptop again, said goodbye and well, here I am, back at the office again Cool

What a stunning day for a ride, and Jean's riding has improved by the minute.  I think I need some more of these AWOL days LaughingSealed
